Job Description

A Commis Chef, also known as a “Line Cook” or “Junior Chef,” is an entry-level position in the kitchen. They’re the backbone of any kitchen, working under the supervision of senior chefs to learn and hone their culinary skills. Here are some of their typical responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation: Prepping ingredients, cutting vegetables, marinating meats, and making sauces.
  2. Cooking Assistance: Helping senior chefs with cooking tasks, such as grilling, sautéing, and baking.
  3. Maintaining Cleanliness: Keeping the work area, kitchen equipment, and utensils clean and sanitized.
  4. Following Recipes: Strictly adhering to recipes and instructions from senior chefs.
  5. Plating Dishes: Assisting in the presentation and plating of dishes.
  6. Stock Management: Monitoring and managing stock levels, and ensuring freshness and quality of ingredients.
  7. Learning: Continuously improving their culinary skills and techniques by learning from more experienced chefs.
