Job Description
Purpose: The GRE is designed to measure a candidate’s readiness for graduate-level work by assessing their verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills.
Test Structure:
- Verbal Reasoning: Measures the ability to analyze and evaluate written material, understand and draw conclusions from discourse, and recognize relationships among words and concepts.
- Quantitative Reasoning: Assesses basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis skills.
- Analytical Writing: Evaluates critical thinking and analytical writing skills through two tasks: “Analyze an Issue” and “Analyze an Argument”.
Scoring:
- Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning: Each section is scored on a scale of 130 to 170, in 1-point increments.
- Analytical Writing: Scored on a scale of 0 to 6, in half-point increments.
Test Format:
- Computer-Based: The GRE is primarily a computer-based test, but in areas lacking appropriate computer networks, a paper-based test may be administered.
- Duration: The test lasts approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, including breaks
