Job Description

The Indian Chef is responsible for creating and executing a variety of traditional and contemporary Indian dishes, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation. This role requires expertise in Indian cooking techniques, a deep understanding of Indian spices and ingredients, and a passion for culinary excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation:
    • Prepare and cook a diverse range of Indian dishes, including appetizers, main courses, and desserts.
    • Use traditional Indian cooking techniques such as tandoori, grilling, frying, and slow cooking.
    • Ensure that all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and prepared according to recipes and standards.
  2. Menu Development:
    • Develop and plan menus that highlight a variety of Indian regional cuisines, from North Indian to South Indian specialties.
    • Collaborate with restaurant management to create seasonal and special event menus.
    • Innovate and introduce new dishes while maintaining the authenticity of traditional recipes.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
    • Conduct regular taste tests and quality checks to ensure consistency and excellence.
    • Monitor portion sizes and ensure that dishes are presented attractively.
  4. Kitchen Management:
    • Supervise and train kitchen staff on Indian cooking techniques and proper food handling.
    • Coordinate with the kitchen team to ensure efficient and timely preparation of dishes.
    • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  5. Inventory and Supplies:
    • Monitor inventory levels and order ingredients and supplies as needed.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of spices, herbs, and other ingredients to prevent spoilage.
    • Establish relationships with suppliers to source high-quality ingredients.
  6. Customer Interaction:
    • Occasionally interact with customers to gather feedback and understand their preferences.
    • Participate in special events, cooking demonstrations, and culinary workshops to promote Indian cuisine.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Indian Chef in a reputable restaurant or culinary establishment.
  • Expertise in traditional Indian cooking techniques and a deep understanding of Indian spices and ingredients.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent knife skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
